late spring out in Fayetteville
the lawns are wide and green
and sometimes when the wind picks up its like nothing you've ever seen
but the streets sound soft and gentle when the college kids aint in town
that's why we made a family there when we were done messing around

kids came quick and easy two daughters and a son
Sonia first then Micah but since we weren't done there was
Marcia she's the youngest but she don't act it though
she's always telling us what to do and where to go

Im telling you this life
I never saw it coming
some times it freaks me out but most times its just funny
the world and all its got in store
and when its all sold out
the minute that I think I know that's when I'll have me doubts

Now I was out on business a couple states away
left my wife and family every couple weeks for a couple days
and there I was out to dinner
with some client and my boss
we were drinking bourbon and I had my phone switched off
but I heard a tv screen
there blastin in the bar
4 dead in Fayetteville tornado flipped a car

I took off home driving
I was half drunk and half mad
I turned on my phone to see the messages that I had
there were 6 missed calls from Marcia and a voicemail that she left
almost couldn't cue it up I was so scared what she said

She said Daddy I'm afraid
and I don't wanna die
and I could hear that awful storm and the tears falling from her eyes

she told me that she loved me and said a quick goodbye
then the message it just stopped abrupt and I couldn't stop crying

4 hours later I pulled into town
cars all flipped up on their sides and a fallen cellphone tower
when I pulled in my driveway
it bout broke my heart with joy
when I saw my wife holding both my daughters and my boy

the storm it ripped right through the house like a reaper with his scythe
and they'd been in the basement there just praying to stay alive
it must've hopped up and over for what reason how could we know?
landed bout a mile east and killed those 4 poor souls
